New Town Eagles members have officially voted to rename their club to 'New Town White Eagles Soccer Club' in a nod to their traditional Polish heritage.
The Club was previously known as the White Eagle Sports Club from 1961 to 1996 before the governing body brought in rules to ban ethnic names, prompting the change to New Town Eagles in 1997.
But with the recent relaxation in Football Australia regulations, clubs can once again acknowledge their ethnic background in their club logos, names and identities once more, which has led to this change.
A brace from English front-man Jack Ryan has helped guide the Olympia to a 2-1 victory over the Glenorchy Knights in the opening game of the 2020 Summer Cup. Ryan nodded them into the lead in the first half, before a rapid fire second half response by the way of Ryan Backhouse restored parity for Knights. But the Warriors seized control of the game late on and Ryan blasted home a second after being put through by Warren Wadawu to secure the win.
The game was played in extremely hot conditions, with the mercury still hitting 33 degrees at kick off despite the 8:30 kick off time. It certainly…

Across the same Ausplay data set, around 22,000 Tasmanians played Australian Rules.

Olympia FC Warriors made it two wins from two in the Summer Cup last night, after defeating the Kingborough Lions 3-1 on a cold night at Warrior Park. A brace from new signing Benjamin Hamlett lead the home side to victory in what was an even encounter for most of the game.
Hamlett nearly had his first in the opening minutes when he lobbed a ball over Lions keeper Lee Mackie but defender Danny Cowen rushed back in time and made a goal line clearance.
After a shaky opening few minutes of Warriors pressure, the travelling Lions began to settle and press higher up the field.
Shooting practice will be at the top of the agenda for the Kingborough Lions and Glenorchy Knights after they played out a 0-0 draw in their Summer Cup clash at KGV on Thursday evening. The scoreless result was not through a lack of chances as both sides freely created chances but failed to convert them in what was an overall scrappy encounter. Knights ultimately walked away with the bonus point from the game after winning the penalty shootout 4-3 following six rounds of spot kicks, giving them the edge in what is looming as a battle for second place to meet Olympia in the Summer Cup final.…
The Women's Summer Cup kicked off on Sunday, with the opening pair of fixtures played at Olinda Grove that saw South Hobart and the Clarence Zebras walking away with the first points of season 2020.

Olympia take on South Hobart at Warrior Park in midweek Summer Cup action. The Warriors are 2 from 2 in the pre-season competition and can lock in their spot in the final with a win tonight. South will be making their first appearance in the competition, having played friendlies with Pascoe Vale and Devonport over the past fortnight.

The Olympia Warriors secured their place in the Summer Cup Final with a 3-2 win over South Hobart at Warrior Park on Wednesday night, but they won't necessarily walk away thrilled with the manner in which they did so. Coming in as heavy favourites against an inexperienced South Hobart side, the Warriors were made to work hard by a plucky South Hobart team who had the better of the first half, before finding themselves overrun in the second 45 as the Warriors flexed their attacking muscle.
With all the player departures dominating the off-season discourse around South, they entered this…
A first look at the newly formed Clarence Zebras as they take on the Kingborough Lions at KGV in Summer Cup action. The Lions are 0 from 2 so far in the pre-season tournament and will be looking to get some points on the board following their defeats to the Knights and Warriors. The Zebras played a friendly with Riverside last week, but this will be their first fixture in this competition.

A hat-trick from Luke Huigsloot ensured Clarence Zebras competitive debut was a successful one, as they easily accounted for the Kingborough Lions 4-1 at KGV. The big front man had a day out as he tore the Lions defence to pieces in a dominant showing to secure a first up victory for the newly amalgamated club.
It was the Lions who drew first blood when Kenneth Trac found some room in the box and fired home a rebound to give his side the lead just minutes into the contest. But that would be as good as things got for the Lions, who ceded the lead soon after and never really looked like…
In the second weekend of Women's Summer Cup action, the Clarence Zebras put in another dominant display as they thumped Taroona 8-0 to book their place in the Cup Final, where a likely match up with Olympia looms after they overcame Kingborough 2-0 at Olinda Grove.
Off the back of a 15-0 thumping of University a week prior, the Zebras once again made short work of their opponents racing to a 5-0 lead inside of the opening 20 minutes against Taroona. Rachel Gill fired in a brace, as did new signing Bronte Gadon, with fellow newcomer to the WSL title winning squad Zara Dixon also getting in on…
In a major bombshell the Devonport Strikers have announced a coaching change, replacing Suraj Pillai with former boss Chris Gallo as the head coach of the clubs NPL TAS side.
The dramatic move comes just under month out from the commencement of the 2020 NPL TAS season on March 21.
The Strikers' board met over the weekend after an intra-club hit out on Saturday morning and arrived at the decision to relieve Pillai of his head coaching duties.
The decision is believed to have been largely driven by squad discontent surrounding the sides' pre-season preparations, which didn't stack up with…
