Football Tasmania’s Referees boss Tony Peart has paid credit to his team of Tasmanian Referees who forwent match payment throughout recent pre-season games in order to help clubs with the financial burden brought about by Covid-19.
In consultation with the Referee’s Standing committee it was agreed by an 85% majority vote held by the Match officials that they would undertake pre-season friendly matches unpaid, a gesture which has proved a big help.
The move has enabled over $4000 in total savings for clubs over the pre-season, coming at a time when many clubs have found it financially tough…
Tasmania’s most popular junior team sport is back on pitches in Burnie, Launceston and Hobart this weekend, with the 2020 junior football season finally kicking off after being delayed by COVID-19.
Deputy Premier Jeremy Rockliff officially started the season at Churchill Park in Launceston this morning, blowing the opening whistle to commence 10 junior matches simultaneously at the northern football hub. Close to 1,000 players from more than 100 teams will play at Churchill Park today.

A bumper Saturday of Cup fixtures is set to the relaunch the 2020 local footballing season, as action resumes with the Round of 16 in the various Statewide Cup competitions.
Some four and a half months after the Qualifying Round of the Lakoseljac Cup was initially played, we are now finally set to have competitive games taking place. After such a lengthy layoff, this weekend represents a real venture into the unknown. The term 'unprecedented times' has been bandied about all too frequently over the past few months and yet it's certainly applicable to the resumption of play here. Who really…
Heavy victories were the order of the day in the Women's Statewide Cup Round of 16 stage, with five of the six games settled by three goals or more. With South Hobart and Beachside already drawn through to the Quarter finals, six other sides have now joined them and did so in pretty dominant fashion.
The Kingborough Lions showed now ill effects from their early start, hitting the road to Somerset and recording a resounding 7-0 win in the first game of the day. Holly Bonertz-Benn did the bulk of the damage, scoring a hat-trick in the second half as the Lions ran away with it. Earlier, Thais…
Local Football returned on Saturday with a bevy of exciting Cup Football taking place around the state including the Round of 16 of the Lakoseljac Cup.
At Birch Avenue Launceston United nearly produced the Cupset of the day, as they came within five minutes of dumping South Hobart out of the competition. A 2-1 Utd lead late into the second half had the defending Champions on the brink, but as is so often the way with South they found a way. An 85th minute leveler from Kobe Kemp was followed by a quickfire brace from Ewan Larby to secure a 4-2 win but not without a major scare.
The draws for the Quarter Finals of the Statewide Cup competitions were conducted this morning at KGV Football House. The games will be played on the weekend of September 4-6.
The NPL Tasmania season is finally set to kick off on Saturday after a delay of over 120 days since the initial Covid-19 induced postponement and the big question is; can anyone stop the Devonport Strikers?
Having claimed 3 of the past 4 league titles including the past two seasons, the side from the Portress are now eyeing off a historic league Three-Peat and despite a setback in the Lakoseljac Cup last weekend, they appear well poised to do just that.
The Strikers will return nearly all of their title winning squad from 2019 and whilst they didn't get off to the ideal start with a 2-1 cup…
The Clarence Zebras loom as the team to beat ahead of the 2020 Women's Super League season which kicks off this weekend. The WSL season will be shortened slightly, reduced from 20 games down to 15 due to the Covid-19 imposed delay that prevented the competition from kicking off back in March and on paper the Zebras would appear to be favourites, with the Olympia Warriors poised as the team best set to challenge them. Kingborough, Ulverstone, South and University will look to close the gap from the runaway top two of last year, but it would be a surprise to see a side other than Olympia or…
