It was a grind at times, but the Devonport Strikers have moved six points clear at the top of the NPL Tasmania table with a 1-0 win over the Glenorchy Knights at Valley Road.
Up against their nearest challenger and the league's top scoring attack, the Strikers were able to maintain their flawless record this season thanks largely to a rock-solid defensive performance. A first-half goal from fullback Connor Parke gave them the lead, but it was goalkeeper Nathan Pitchford that won the day with a handful of reflex saves to keep the Knights at bay. The visitors were far from disgraced as they…
South Hobart live-wire Kasper Hallam scored one and setup another as South Hobart claimed a 2-1 win over Riverside Olympic at Windsor Park. The young speedster opened the scoring after 11 minutes before turning provider for Sam Berezansky midway through the second half which was enough to secure all three points despite late strike from Spainard Nil Sanz.
South made the early running and it soon translated into the games opening goal. A corner from Berezansky was only half cleared allowing Hallam to pounce. The 17 year old stealing the ball back at the top of the before unleashing an…
Launceston City have their first point of the 2020 NPL Tasmania season, as they played out a 2-2 draw with Clarence Zebras at Buckby Landrover Park. Twice the hosts were forced to fight back after falling behind, as goals from Hawes and Oh cancelled out Hey and Juju's go-ahead goals for the visitors, in a scrappy but entertaining clash that came to life in the final 15 minutes.
It was the Zebras who were gifted the chance to take the lead at the quarter of the hour mark when Mason Gardner was adjudged to have tripped up Lachie Burt in the box with a dangling leg which looked a harsh decision…
Football Tasmania Female Only Skill Training Certificate,
19 females have started their Skill Training Certificate in Southern Tasmania. The course kicked off on Thursday 27th August and will carry on over the next 8 weeks, with the group meeting once a fortnight.
“I’m very pleased with the uptake for this course and everyone that attended did very well. The mix of ages from youth players to supportive parents showed how much of an engaging experience can be created,” stated Southern Regional Football Development Officer Matt Kilsby.
The Olympia Warriors have rescued a point at the expense of Kingborough Lions in a 3-3 classic at Warrior Park. Olympia had a 2-0 buffer at the break courtesy of Callum and Declan Brown scoring but in a matter of five second half minutes that lead was evaporated by a vibrant Lions outfit who surged to a 3-2 lead. Goals from Davis Bryan, Adam Mckeown and Danny Cowen weren't enough for all three points after a late equaliser from Adam Gorrie's set-piece found the back of the net.
Callum Brown was the first to get the breakthrough after getting onto a great low cross from his brother Declan,…
Ulverstone edged out the Kingborough Lions during a closely fought 1-0 affair, with the result pinning the first win on the board for the Reds. Around the hour mark Eli Cropp broke the deadlock with a goal scored through traffic. Danger from the counter attack from both sides was reminiscent of quality counter meals at the pub. Despite the threats, Ulverstone hung onto its single goal lead.
The match began with a bang. Tiela Weeda sent a rocket that smashed off the upright. While the opportunity ultimately provided a false gauge of the game’s attack, it did mark Ulverstone’s early intent.…
Olympia Warriors speedster Bonnie Davies did the bulk of the damage as Olympia powered to a 3-0 win over South Hobart in a game played in diabolical conditions at Darcy Street.
With heavy rain pouring down for the majority of the 90 minutes and a heavier pitch beneath their feet, it was never going to be easy for the players in this one, but Olympia seemed to handle conditions the better, despite their home track being a synthetic pitch.
A frenetic opening 20 minutes saw the teams trading chances and a wide open affair developing with the best chance falling to…
The Clarence Zebras have cruised to a resounding 10-2 victory over University on what was a frosty winter Sunday at KGV Park. Zoe Nichols led the way with her four goals whilst Caitlin Stalker also picked up a hat-trick inside of the first 20 minutes.
It was a fast start as Isabella Ferrier scored the opening goal three minutes into the game with a clinical finish inside the box which Uni's keeper Rhiannon Steele was unable to keep out.
But University were able to score a shock equaliser only a minute after play resumed. Sophie Young sent in a low ball to Zoe Lovell who was able to get onto…
The NPL Tasmania has its first coaching causality of the season, with the Olympia Warriors announcing they are parting ways with Andrew Brown after a stumbling start to their 2020 campaign.
The Warriors sit in fifth place on the table after six rounds of the season with a 2-1-3 record and despite recovering from an 0-3 start with a pair of wins over Launceston City and Riverside, Saturday's 3-3 draw with Kingborough in which they ceded a 2-0 lead appears to have been the final straw.
2019 coach Rob Clarke will take over the side for the remainder of the season starting with Saturday nights…

Match Primer
Throw your mind back to round two, where both these teams put a point on the board in what was a come from behind performance from the hosts. There’s every chance of a repeat of that in what should be another…
A stoppage-time equaliser from Miles Barnard saved the Devonport Strikers from a shock loss, but they still dropped their first points of the season with a 1-1 draw against the Kingborough Lions.
The Lions took an early lead at Lightwood Park through Chris Downes, and they defended that lead right up until the dying moments of the game. After dominating the possession for most of the day, it took a 91st-minute corner for the Strikers to break through as Barnard rose at the back post and nodded home. While they stole a point late and the Lions took a result…
Riverside Olympic fought back from a 3-1 deficit to claim a 3-3 draw with Clarence Zebras in a pulsating clash at Windsor Park on Saturday afternoon. A Riley Dillon brace had the visitors on track for all three points before a quick reply from Fletcher Fulton and late Tom Prince strike stole back a point for the hosts.
It was Riverside who took the early lead when Matt Spanos tapped home from close range after some clever play from Nil Sanz on the left hand side. The skillful Spaniard stole the ball and forged the opportunity to see Olympic striking from their…
A week after falling six points behind the Strikers in the title race, the Glenorchy Knights have cut the gap at the top of the table back to 4 points by taking advantage of Devonport's slip up with a comfortable 3-0 win over Launceston City at KGV. Goals from Smith, Walter and Nkoso secured the result in a match in which they were rarely troubled, with the result beyond put doubt early in the second half.
Rob Gerrard came close to giving City an early lead when he headed over the crossbar from close range from an early free kick but it was as close as they would come all match, with Knights…
The Olympia Warriors put a chaotic week behind them and claimed a 2-1 win over South Hobart in their Saturday night NPL TAS clash. With Alex Holmes in charge of the side following Andrew Brown's midweek dismissal, the Warriors recovered from an early Nick Morton goal to fight back and secure a late win when Joseph Mwarabu scored a fortuitous goal that came directly from a corner.
After already having come close once in the opening exchanges when Sam Berezansky headed over the top, it was South who took the lead on fifteen minutes via Nick Morton. Ewan Larby shifted inside onto his right foot…
In a no thrills encounter, where neither team could find their groove, a single goal from Lucy Reimer was all that was needed to separate Ulverstone and University.
The 2-2 draw from round 2 was evidence the encounter was always going to be tight and University’s hunger for a first victory was evident, however Ulverstone ground out the result to make it two 1-0 wins from their last two games.
The Bees welcomed back Emma Cazaly from injury, who immediately made an impact acting as a rock in defence. The reliable centre back saw Olivia Young pushed to out to right back. While the Reds made…
The Olympia Warriors moved back into top spot on the table with a comprehensive dismantling of the Kingborough Lions, running out 8-0 winners. Taking advantage of a strong wind at their backs, the Warriors raced to a 6-0 half time lead with their glistening attack led by Chambers and Davies proving too much for the Lions to handle.
The Warriors wasted little time putting this one beyond doubt and had built a comfortable 4-0 lead inside of half an hour as they blitzed a young Lions side who struggled to keep possession coming out of defence.
Bonnie Davies pounced on a sloppy backpass for the…
A brace from Allie Berry helped guide the Clarence Zebras to a 3-1 win over South Hobart in their Sunday Super League clash. Berry's pair of delightfully chipped goals helped secure her side the victory after an early penalty had the game locked at 1-1 after 10 minutes.
The wind sure played a major factor in the match. We saw attempted long balls down the midfield corridor failing to make the mark, inadvertently going out for goal kicks and goal kicks were going in all sorts of directions. Let's just say it was not what you would expect from a regular game of football.
