2020: Summer Cup Final: Clarence Zebras 4 – 1 Olympia Warriors
Match Primer
The two title favourites are finally set to meet as the Clarence Zebras host the Olympia Warriors in this rescheduled game from Round 5. Heavy rain made the pitch unplayable that day and forced a postponement but that has only served to add to the sense of…
The Clarence Zebras have displaced the Olympia Warriors atop the Women's Super League table after they ground out a 1-0 win in their Wednesday night showdown. Caitlin Stalker volleyed her side into lead midway through the first half and it proved the difference, as her side grimly held out under siege for the majority of the second half to claim the win and ascend to the top of the table.
The replay of the Summer Cup final didn’t disappoint. On arrival the Warriors rode high on confidence, without having conceded a goal, while CZ were out to stake its claim and climb to the top of the ladder…

It's time for Tasmania to give football a fair go
We need your support in letting our State Government know that it's time football was given a fair go. Football Tasmania's submission for more funding in the 2020/21 State Budget will be so much more powerful if you, your family and friends sign up at fairgofortasfootball.com.au/.
The World Game is Tasmania’s most popular team sport, yet it continues to receive just a fraction of the funding provided to other sports like AFL and cricket, that have declining club-based participation.
We need to be able to meet the continual growth in…
Football Tasmania has determined that The Lakoseljac Cup quarter final match between South Hobart and Kingborough will be replayed due to a breach of s1.12 of the 2020 Statewide Cup Rules:
“1.12 Team Sheets
The team sheet must contain the names and shirt numbers of the players taking part in the match, including the names of the nominated substitutes AND all team officials.”
In accordance with Law 3 section 5 of the FIFA Laws of the Game, the match continued with no sanction against any player at the time, and the matter was reported to Football Tasmania for attention.
Part 2 of the Southern Tasmania Female Only Skill Training Certificate took place on Thursday night with participants presenting the Skill Training component of a training session they had been developing following Part 1 of the course.
"Having the course broken into 4 parts means that the participants can take their on-course learnings from one session, develop them over the fortnight, then return to share the activities that they have prepared," commented Matt Kilsby, the…
A fairer level of State Government funding which more accurately represents the World Game’s position as Tasmania’s most played team sport sits top of Football Tasmania’s State Budget wish list.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said it was time for a fair go for football as the peak body for soccer launched a new wesbite to enable the community to show their support at https://fairgofortasfootball.com.au/
“Football Tasmania has made a submission regarding the 2020-21 budget, which outlines the areas we believe are key to ensuring the state’s most played and fastest growing team…
South Hobart have booked their spot in the Women's Statewide Cup Quarter Finals with a comfortable 3-1 victory over University at Olinda Grove.
In the only all WSL battle of the four quarter finals, South Hobart struck twice in the space of 90 seconds early in the first half to set up the win and make it two wins from two over the Bees this season.
It was Nikki Moutsatsos who opened the scoring on 23 minutes as she fired home past Steele and before University could even recover to muster a response, their lead was doubled.
Moutsatsos's strike partner Pichon Choi was the scorer and in the…
Noah Mies marked his return to Launceston City starting line-up with a goal and an assist as Launceston City accounted for Hobart United 2-0 at KGV in their Lakoseljac Cup Quarter Final. Mies fired his side into the lead with a powerful hit on 16 minutes before turning provider for Charlie Dyer seven minutes later. United pushed hard to find a goal to spark a fightback but City's defence, marshalled superbly by Oh and Millington shut them out and secured their progression.
Having found himself demoted to the Northern Championship in recent weeks, Mies was out to leave his mark on return to…
It took just seven minutes for the Glenorchy Knights to seal their place in the Lakoseljac Cup semi-finals, as three first-half goals in quick succession saw them claim a comfortable 3-0 win over Taroona.
It was a game that lacked inspiration for much of the 90 minutes, but a brilliant burst of attacking football from the Knights saw them take control just before half time. Young winger Cade Smith played a hand in all three goals, as he assisted Nic Naden's opener, won a penalty for Alex Walter's first and forced the rebound that led to his second. Taroona were impressive in defence for much…
The Clarence Zebras have punched their ticket through to the final four of the Women's Statewide Cup as the comfortably accounted for Northern Rangers in their quarter final match up. The Zebras claimed a 5-1 victory to cap off a big week for the club following their ascension to summit of the Women's Super League table on Wednesday night with their win over Olympia.
The WSL powerhouse had them game well under control early on as Rachel Gill opened the scoring on 10 minutes before Bronte Gadon doubled that 10 minutes later.
The Northern Championship side did themselves no shame though as…
Laura Davis was at her brilliant best, scoring five goals in a glistening individual display as the Kingborough Lions proved far too strong for Riverside Olympic in their Statewide Cup Quarter final. Davis was simply unplayable for most of the afternoon as her side overwhelmed their Northern Championship opposition and ran out comfortable 8-0 victors to advance to the Semi Finals.
Davis's pace loomed large over this game from the outset and she had her side ahead just four minutes in when she raced behind the defence before burying her first of the afternoon.
Defending Champions South Hobart have advanced to Lakoseljac Cup Semi Finals with a thrilling 3-2 win over the Kingborogh Lions in their Sunday quarter final at Darcy Street. South came from behind and won what would prove a cup classic over a plucky Lions side who fought hard but were ultimately brought undone by a late Joel Sammut own goal.
It was the Lions who took a shock early lead when Joel Sammut unleashed a thunderbolt of a strike from 30 yards out that rattled into the crossbar before bouncing back onto the head of a diving Nathan Reid and ricocheting back into the net for a…
It was dour and unspectacular for large chunks of the game, but the Olympia Warriors have eased into the Semi Finals of the Lakoseljac Cup with a 2-0 win over University at Warrior Park. Goals from Vandermey and Mearns secured the result as the Warriors look to once again win the competition they last claimed in the 2017 season.
The first fifteen minutes were a scrappy affair and they hinted at what was to come with neither side creating much, though possession was certainly more even in the opening exchanges than it would prove to be from the moment the Warriors hit the lead.
The Olympia Warriors have moved onto the final four of the Women's Statewide Cup as they smashed Beachside 7-0 in their Quarter Final clash.
Beachside were forced down to 10 players early in the game after a sending off in the 18th minute as Josi Gargioni was sent to the changing rooms after a deliberate hand ball in the box. A penalty was awarded and subsequently saved by keeper Amy Coward.

Two clubs vying for third place. Ulverstone bring the weight of experience of a third place finish last season, while this is new territory for South Hobart. The home side are…
A team-sheet error has forced a rematch of the Lakoseljac Cup Quarter Final between South Hobart and the Kingborough Lions after it was found that South had erroneously named Kasper Hallam as a starter and Tobias Herweynen as a substitute on their officially submitted team sheet in their 3-2 Cup victory on Sunday.
With the names directly underneath each other it was determined by Football Tasmania that it was a case of boxes being incorrectly ticked on the sheet and a rematch was decided as the fairest solution, with no direct precedent or specific ruling within the Competitions Rules to…
The draws for the Semi Final stage of the Statewide Cup competitions have been completed today at KGV Football House.
In the Lakoseljac Cup the lone Northern side left in the running, Launceston City, will travel to Warrior Park to take on the 2017 Champions, Olympia Warriors. The other Semi Final will pit the side who probably sit as the current Cup favourites in the Glenorchy Knights up against the winner of the South Hobart v Kingborough Lions rematch, after South's 3-2 victory was deemed void following a team-sheet violation. The date of that rematch is yet to be determined and will be…
