South Hobart survived a spirited Launceston City fightback to claim a 3-2 win in their NPL Tasmania season opener at Darcy Street on Saturday afternoon.
Kasper Hallam fired the hosts into a deserved half time lead before a Samuel Tooze brace had South cruising at 3-0 up midway through the second half. That all changed when Samuel Ridgard and Yasin Mohammadi responded for the visitors to set the stage for a grandstand finish. Ultimately South held on against City's late push to secure a valuable 3 points and start their season in the best possible fashion.
A superb piece of goalkeeping from Nathan Pitchford has helped secure the Devonport Strikers a 1-0 win over Riverside Olympic on the road at Windsor Park. The State's premiere goalkeeper produced a massive diving stop, flinging himself at full stretch to his right in the 93rd minute to preserve the win having watched his side completely dominate the bulk of the contest, but find themselves unable to find a second goal.
In a game featuring Tasmania's top 2 goalkeepers, Jarrod Hill also showed his credentials when he denied an Eddie Bidwell penalty just 11 minutes…
Star Striker Laura Davis hit the back of the net twice and the Kingborough Lions secured a 3-1 win over Ulverstone in the opening game of the Women's Super League season.
Facing the long trip to the coast to kick things off, the Lions had the better of the early going and pulled ahead via Davis midway through the first half. An under hit back pass from Emily Nellis put Georgia Anderson under pressure and despite reaching the ball first, she cleared it straight into Davis and saw the ball fall perfectly for the Lions striker who stroked home the opener.

Has my organisation reviewed its return to sport plan to ensure alignment with Tasmania’s Roadmap for Recovery, Level C of the AIS Framework and Worksafe Tasmania COVID Safe Workplace Guidelines for the Sport and Recreation Industry?

Hundreds of junior footballers flocked back to Meercroft Park today, rejoicing at being able to finally pull on the boots after COVID-19 delayed the start of the 2020 Devonport Junior Soccer Association season.
Mersey MLC Mike Gaffney blew the whistle to officially commence the season this morning, which will see close to 700 children aged between four and 12 playing Tasmania’s favourite team sport in the Devonport region.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said seeing so many children enjoying the World Game again was a great reward for the entire north-west Tasmanian football community…
The Clarence Zebras have claimed the first edition of the new look Eastern Shore Derby, as they overcame a 10 man Olympia outfit at Wentworth Park. In a physical game, Lachie Burt scored the lone marker against a Warriors side who were reduced to just 10 men following Callum Brown's dismissal in the 37th minute.
The win represents a big turnaround for the competition newcomers, who were humbled 5-1 by the Kingborough Lions last week in the Lakoseljac Cup, but they put in a much better shift and made the Warriors pay for their ill discipline to deal a big blow to their rivals in the process…
The Kingborough Lions accounted for the Glenorchy Knights 2-0 at Lightwood Park on Saturday night in their first NPL Tasmania game of the 2020 campaign.
Set piece maestro Chris Downes was the architect, setting up the first goal with a corner to the back post that was guided home by Davis Bryan, before scoring the second himself with a free kick from the centre circle of the pitch that slipped through the fingers of Knights keeper, Lachlan Hart and into the back of the net. After the two early goals the hosts were then rock solid in defence as they saw off the Knights attacking threat and…
The Olympia F.C Warriors claimed a 1-0 win in their Women's Super League clash at Warrior Park on Sunday, but they were made to sweat it out as South Hobart came close to equalising on multiple occasions in an entertaining second half.
An early penalty won by Olivia Bomford and converted by Bonnie Davies seemingly had the Warriors well on the way to victory as they dominated the first 45 minutes and looked like adding to their lead. But South fought back after the break, hitting the crossbar and having another ruled out by the referee in what proved an intriguing second half battle.
The Clarence Zebras got their 2020 season off to a dominant start as they hammered University 8-0 at Wentworth Park on Sunday. The title favourites wasted little time flexing their muscle, as Zoe Nichols fired in a hat-trick in a showing that will put the rest of the league on notice. Having lead 2-0 at the break, the competition newbies proved far too strong and fired in six more second half strikes in a performance that underlined why they are the team to beat in 2020.
The Bees defence held sturdy in the first 25 minutes as they absorbed pressure and Rhiannon Steele was looking assured in…
Continued his remarkable spot kick record as he saved yet another penalty and Hill kept his side in the game with some fine saves throughout the contest.
RB- Keenan Douce (Kingborough)
The Lions skipper was his energetic self down the right wing all game and his body on the line, ultra committed approach helped protect the clean sheet.
CB- Danny Cowen (Kingborough)
The Lions veteran was a force in the air for his side and his no nonsense defensive approach was exactly what his side required to keep out the Knights.

Two sides both looking to bounce back after opening round defeats clash on the coast as Ulverstone tackle University on Saturday. The sides haven't met since the 2018 season after University's relegation meant they didn't clash in 2019. A lot has changed since then…
South Hobart managed to steal all three points in a tight 1-0 win against the Clarence Zebras, but it may have come at a cost with an injury to Kobe Kemp and a late red card to Andy Brennan.
A Kasper Hallam goal on the stroke of half time was enough to split the two sides, and it came after midfield maestro Kemp had been helped from the field after a heavy knock to the leg. The Zebras fought hard and looked the more likely side in the second half, but they couldn't break through a South backline marshalled brilliantly by goalkeeper Mark Moncur. A second yellow card for Brennan in the dying…
The Kingborough Lions and Riverside Olympic were forced to settle for a point apiece as they played out a pulsating 3-3 draw at Lightwood Park on Saturday afternoon. Riverside looked as if they had done enough to pinch the see-sawing contest when Nil Sanz fired in his second goal of the game to restore his side's lead on 84 minutes, before Adam Mckeown salvaged a point for a 10 man Kingborough Lions side just two minutes later with his back post header.
As they did a week prior, the Kingborough Lions made a positive start and took the lead early on. A quick counter attack down the right wing…
The Devonport Strikers avenged their Lakoseljac Cup defeat to Launceston City as they reversed the scoreline from two weeks earlier and claimed a 2-1 win in what was a spiteful affair at Buckby Landrover Park. In a game with plenty of feeling, it was a pair of unlikely goal scorers who secured the win for the defending Champions as Connor Parke opened the scoring with a fine diving header before Kieran Mulraney doubled the lead just before half time. A late strike from Samuel Ridgard gave a 10 man City side some late hope, but it would prove to be just a…
The Glenorchy Knights snapped a streak of eight years without a win over the Olympia Warriors to claim a huge 3-1 win at KGV to kick start their NPL season and consign Olympia to an 0-2 start. New signing and former Warrior Joffrey Nkoso immediately haunted his former side, scoring one goal and assisting another as the Knights won a hotly contested clash at KGV.
The Warriors had not lost in their past 17 clashes with the Knights and had won 16 of them, tracing all the way back to the 2012 Southern Premier League season, but they knew they were in for a stern test right out of the gates of…
Ulverstone fought back to claim their first point of the Women's Super League season, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to claim a 2-2 draw against University in their Saturday afternoon clash. A brace from Sophie Young had the Bees well on the way to victory before 2019 Rising Star Winner Amy Bissett halved their lead on 72 minutes. It was former University player Eli Cropp who then punished her former side when she stroked from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time to ensure a share of the spoils and that both sides would earn their first point of the season.
A series of stunning goals have helped fire the Clarence Zebras to a 4-0 win over South Hobart at Darcy Street. The win keeps the newly formed side on top of the table as they maintained their unbeaten start in all competitions to the 2020 season.
The opening twenty minutes saw the Zebras getting on top in the midfield battle but not creating much from it, with a Zoe Nichols shot from range the lone chance to come from it.
It was Louisa Marmion who would find the breakthrough and she did so in style. A cross from Burt on the right was well controlled by Nichols in the penalty area, flicking…
