The football community was thrilled when Andrew Wilkie announced 12.8 million funding for the North Chigwell junior football hub in March 2019. Football Tasmania worked closely with Mr. Wilkie to secure this funding and have been grateful for his hard work and support ever since then. Mr. Wilkie is a fantastic supporter of football in Tasmania and has done everything possible to get this project happening.
On behalf of the football community I’d like to again thank Mr. Wilkie, as well Senator Eric Abetz, for their efforts in Canberra to get this funding over the line after it received formal…

My State Bank has also come on board to sponsor the state’s referees across all levels of the game.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said the increased support from MyState Bank would…

15 teams from 10 clubs will compete in 144 matches across the MyState Bank Women’s Super League (WSL) and National Premier Leagues Tasmania (NPL) this season, all aiming to be crowned the best team in the state.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said after an interrupted season in 2020, it was fantastic to kick off 2021 with the biggest ever season across the NPL and WSL competitions.
Football Tasmania is bringing the world game to Parliament today to highlight the increasingly important role football plays in our community.
Football Tasmania CEO, Matt Bulkeley said it was important to highlight just how important football has become in Tasmania in recent years.
“Football has always been an important part of the community, providing vast social, health and economic benefits – but what we’ve seen in recent years is an explosion in participation numbers,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“We’re seeing an increase in all age groups, but in particular from females and that’s only going to…
We’re really excited to be welcoming Western United FC to Tasmania next month for the Festival of Football.
It is critically important that this partnership is able to provide tangible benefits to football in Tasmania. To this end, we are so pleased that two Tasmanian women’s state teams (one senior and the other an Under 16 team), will be selected to play against Calder United SC prior to the second A League match. Kick-off times for these two matches will be approximately 2.00pm and 4.15pm respectively.
Prior to the A-League match on Saturday, we will also be staging two local matches.…

Southern Championship
New Town White Eagles 3-2 South Hobart (AET)
The Southern Championship Summer Cup final was a game of ebbs and flows, swinging momentum and 20 minutes of extra football. At the end of it all, it was the New Town White Eagles that emerged victorious and claimed the Cup with a thrilling 3-2 win over South Hobart.
There were few signs of the excitement that was to come early in the game, as both sides gently rolled into first gear from the kickoff. The NPL experience in South's lineup showed as they dominated the possession for long stretches, but they struggled to break…
Devonport Strikers
Last season:
NPL TAS: Champions (13-1-0)
Lakoseljac Cup: Round of 16
Summer Cup 2021: N/A
The defending champions have been laying low for much of the pre-season, as they did not participate in the Summer Cup and have not disclosed details of any other practice games. Still, they appear to have kept the bulk of their 2020 squad intact, which could be enough for them to enter the 2021 season as title favourites once more. It’s hard to pick against a club that has won the last three NPL Tasmania titles and that sealed that three-peat with an undefeated season. Joel Stone…
Olympia Warriors
Last season:
WSL: Champions (14-0-1)
Statewide Cup: Finalists
Summer Cup 2021: Champions (3-0-0)
Despite a dominant 2020 season that saw them lose just one WSL game, the Warriors entered the new pre-season with a few doubts around their squad. The players that they lost over the offseason would make a formidable lineup themselves—Sophie Leszczynski to Adelaide, Caitlin Roberts to Eltham, Raiah Collins and Maddie Black to Mitchelton, Olivia Bomford to Belconnen and Jenna Farrow to retirement. It’s hard to imagine losing so much talent and remaining at the top of the pack, and…
The Glenorchy Knights have opened their season with a win, putting away Olympia Warriors in a lacklustre round one affair at KGV. Alex Walter scored the game's only goal in the second period. It was a respectable crowd, but unfortunately not many goals or notable actions took place.
Olympia started four debutants, with 17-year-old Ben Tilley getting the captain's armband on debut.
New faces Jake Hayers, Matt Bomford and Bilal Hit Maamar also all started. The Knights went into the match at full strength, with Tyler Harrison and Lucas Hill starting.
The Olympia Warriors have started their Women’s Super League title defence with a bang, downing Taroona 4-1 at Kelvedon Park. Up against a side in their first season back in the league, the defending champions flexed their muscles and cruised to a comfortable victory to open their campaign.
Taroona defended well for the opening half an hour, locking down the attack from Innocent Michael and Meggie Goscombe. However, it was Goscombe who scored the first, as a scramble in the box ended with her getting the final touch.
Olympia were forced into a change and brought on star striker Bonnie…
Glenorchy Knights 1-0 Olympia Warriors
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5jKccTU4ks
The Glenorchy Knights have started their season with a win, overcoming a stubborn Olympia Warriors defence to prevail 1-0 at KGV. It was an admirable performance from a youthful Warriors side, but 2020 Golden Boot winner Alex Walter broke through to score the game's only goal in the second half.
After plenty of player movement during the offseason, the Warriors entered round one with a starting lineup made up mostly from their Southern Championship-winning side from a year ago. The Knights, on the…
South Hobart 1-2 Devonport Strikers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKL4u4spmTQ
The Devonport Strikers have quickly opened their account in the Women's Super League, travelling to Darcy Street for their first game and emerging with a 2-1 win over South Hobart. The Strikers were a goalscoring juggernaut last season in the Northern Championship, but single goals from Jazmin White and Danielle Mitchell were enough to secure the result.
Showing no signs of nerves early, the Strikers very nearly took the lead inside the opening minutes as White found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. She…

South Hobart had the biggest win of the week in round one, but they will face the league's toughest test as they take on Devonport at their Valley Road fortress. For years opposing teams have found it near impossible to score at the ground, but on paper South might have…

Both of these sides may be new to the Women's Super League, but they both arrived with a bang in round one to notch their first wins of the season. Launceston United were particularly impressive,…
The Devonport Strikers have tasted defeat at their home ground for the first time in more than 1,000 days, going down 1-0 to South Hobart at Valley Road. In a game where both sides struggled to find goalscoring chances, a second half Nick Morton penalty was enough to give the visitors an upset victory over the three-time defending champions.
With a sprinkling of rain early and a heavy surface underfoot, it was hardly the perfect day for a free-flowing game of football. Neither side seemed interested in going against the conditions either, with both teams largely relying on long aerial passes…
