NPL Match review | Saturday 29th August 2021 | Olympia Warriors vs Riverside Olympic
2021 has been a year of changes at Olympia. Significantly with the departure of long-time president, George Mamacas and more recently, women’s advocate and manager Sarah Black. Academy coordinator, Nick Taylor also left the ranks at the end of the season. When the starting lineup came out for round one, it featured a group of very young and relatively inexperienced players who I recognised mostly from the youth leagues and Under 20’s statewide competitions.
The Glenorchy Knights’ 1-0 victory over the Clarence Zebras at KGV kept the pressure on the Devonport Strikers ahead of a blockbuster meeting between the two next week.
The strategy deployed by the Zebras was all too familiar to James Sherman and the Knights, bearing a striking resemblance to that used by the Olympia Warriors in their 0-0 draw last week. Franco Previdi deployed a 5-2-3 with Austin Yost under the watchful eye of centre-back Finleh Crespin, while Josh Mathie remained skin-tight to the Knights’ leading goal scorer, Nick Mearns…
MyState Women's Super League, round review | Saturday 28th / Sunday 29th August.
With Clarence Zebras already celebrating their phenomenal early title win weeks ago, the battle for second place in the 2021 MyState Women's Super League is heating up.
Last year's Champions, Olympia Warriors face stiff competition for second place in the form of Kingborough Lions and the two Northern newcomers Launceston United and Devonport Strikers with currently just a point between them.
The Warriors had a bye last weekend so are ready to face Launceston United at home this weekend at the NTCA.…

Johnson is now the third Tasmanian footballer to join a team in the W-League after Meghan Archer (Melbourne Victory) and Aimee Medwin (Melbourne City), and the second Tasmanian to join Newcastle Jets after Andy Brennan.
Previously a player for Olympia Warriors and Hobart Zebras, Johnson joins the Jets from South Melbourne FC.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said it was great to see another Tasmanian flying the flag for the state in the nation’s highest level of competition.
Football Tasmania is one step closer to completing the mammoth task of delivering a free ball to every registered junior player in the state.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley was at Dominic College today to deliver balls to students as part of the joint initiative with MyState Bank.
“As Tasmania’s most popular team sport and with junior clubs and school teams in all corners of the state, getting a ball out to every player hasn’t been easy, but the reception we’ve received has definitely made it worthwhile,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“The kids love receiving a ball to practise their skills in…

The NPL Tasmania is set for a dream finish with the Glenorchy Knights earning a crucial three points over the Devonport Strikers in the penultimate round, teeing up a nerve-wracking final day of action.
The Strikers travelled to KGV with the opportunity to take the league trophy back home with them, and a strong contingent of travelling fans had made the trip south to see it happen. The Strikers’ fan-base was bolstered by the fact that the Hobart Cup took place over the same weekend, giving Devonport’s competing junior teams the opportunity…
The Kingborough Lions continued their winning ways in the NPL TAS with a convincing 2-0 win over the Olympia Warriors at Lightwood Park.
It was wet and windy, a typical kind of day at 'The Den’, and the Lions were looking to capitalise on their home ground advantage. Ben Hamlett was the first on the score sheet, receiving the ball after Simon Vivarelli and Shane Cartwright’s one-two play. Hamlett charged down the right flank and hit with sheer power into the top corner for the opener at the 25 minute mark. The Lions added to their tally…

The WSL table will undergo at least one more change in the final round of the season, and the meeting between the Kingborough Lions and the Devonport Strikers will be the final opportunity for these two sides to make their moves.
The Kingborough Lions proved to be the villain in the Devonport Strikers’ quest for championship glory, earning a 2-1 victory at Lightwood Park to hand the title to the Glenorchy Knights on a dramatic final day of NPL Tasmania action.
A minute’s silence was observed before kick-off to pay respect to Greg Ellis, a legend of the Kingborough Lions United Football Club which did him proud with its performances on the day, including in the Women’s Super League where a 3-3 draw in the earlier kick-off secured a third-place finish. A Strikers win…
This time last weekend, the Tasmanian football community were preparing for a blockbuster round of action in which the Glenorchy Knights and Devonport Strikers both had high hopes of being crowned champions at the final whistle.
As it was, Glenorchy would hoist the trophy thanks to a Lucas Hill header, while Ben Hamlett crushed Devonport dreams at Lightwood. In what was a memorable year for the Knights, they overcame injuries, player transfers, and many a parked bus to get to where they now stand at the pinnacle of Tasmanian football. This is a look back at how it all…

After drawing with Clarence Zebras in the opening round, University was the only side to win all of their following matches this season.
University coach, Amey Jambekar, said the team’s goal for the season was to “play a good attacking brand of football, try and score goals and keep clean sheets”.
“[We] wanted to make sure that each one contributed and put in massive efforts in each game,” Jambekar said.
The team’s efforts this season saw them house the top two goal scorers for the competition, with Sophie Young booting 43 and Mikalha…
