Knights Score Dramatic Victory Over Lions To Reclaim Top Spot
A week after ceding top spot, the Glenorchy Knights moved back to the summit of the NPL Tasmania table, by scoring a highly dramatic 4-2 victory over the Kingborough Lions on Friday night. The Knights' title hopes appeared to be slipping when they trailed the Lions 2-1 after 75 minutes, with some wastefulness in front of goal looking like it may come back to haunt them. Then the game swung into five minutes of utter madness. An Eli Luttmer handball in the box saw the Knights given the…
Match of the Round: Devonport Strikers v Kingborough Lions
It’s the penultimate weekend of the Women’s Super League season and Match of the Round for Round 20 will see the Devonport Strikers playing host to the Kingborough Lions at Valley Road.
The Strikers remain undefeated so far this season and head into the match off the back of a dominant display against South Hobart last weekend.
Coach Tom Ballantyne was pleased with how his side played in the 6-1 victory.
“The first half was really good, it was a really clinical performance, they executed the gameplan really well,” he said…
Match of the Round: Devonport Strikers v Kingborough Lions
It’s the penultimate round of the NPL Tasmania season and the title race is going right down to the wire. Following last weekend’s results, a final-day showdown between Deovnport and Glenorchy Knights may well be on the cards to decide the title, but first, both sides need to take care of business this weekend. For Devonport that means doing something they’ve been unable to do this season, defeating the Kingborough Lions, who they meet in the Match of the Round.
Strikers boss Tom Ballantyne said last week’s dramatic last-gasp…
The Devonport Strikers set the stage for a dramatic final-day clash with the Glenorchy Knights, as they downed the Kingborough Lions 4-1 in their final home game of the year. Needing to win to send it to the final day of the season, the Strikers never looked like slipping up after they struck twice in 90 seconds inside the opening 15 minutes of the match to race to a 2-0 lead. At a muddy Valley Road, the Strikers handled the conditions better than the Lions and caused chaos with their set-piece delivery…
The season is now complete, the dinners have been held, trophies awarded and Champions crowned and what an amazing season it has been. The clear highlight of course has been the perfor
mance of Devonport Strikers who captured the PS4 NPL TAS with a record number of points, won the Lakoseljac Cup and participated in two rounds of the Westfield FFA Cup before falling in extra-time to Bentleigh Greens. In addition they also triumphed in the men’s Northern Championship. A huge congratulations to Rod Andrews, Chris McKenna, Peter Savill and everyone connected with the club on a season that has…

From Montello to KGV, wherever the festival traveled to, the girls flocked to it all around the state. Smiling faces and eager participants greeted those running the sessions, as the girls enthusiastically…
Football Federation Tasmania CEO Mike Palmer has today responded to the rumours of a pending bid to place an A-League franchise in Tasmania.
It had been reported through EON Sports Radio that former Melbourne Victory director and property mogul Harry Stamoulis was leading a consortium looking to bring an A-League side to Tasmania.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon Palmer confirmed he met with representatives of the consortium for an informal chat in the middle of August but that was as far as FFT's involvement in any bid went.
It was a day of mixed fortunes for the Tasmanian State Teams as Ben Hamlett came off the bench and scored the game winning goal with the final kick of the game for the Men, as they edged a classy Melbourne City Youth side 2-1, but the Women's went down to the Victorians, who claimed a 5-0 win to retain the Bass Strait Cup.
The tone was set for the Men's game from the outset, as City showed their fine technical abilities and dominated possession from the early stages of the game. They played with great patience, happily turning around and passing back if nothing was on and waiting…

The Devonport Strikers celebrated the day on which they received their WSL Trophy by hammering the Kingborough Lions 5-2. The Strikers have been relentless in their pursuit of an unbeaten season and remained en route to achieve just that by scoring a comfortable win over the third-placed Lions. In a game played in tricky conditions, the bulk of the goals came early with Dani Capel making it 4-1 after just 34 action-packed minutes that saw five different players hitting the back of the net. Erika Mackintosh made…
The Women's Super League season reaches its conclusion for the majority of sides this weekend, with Round 21 set to play out on Saturday. With the Strikers already crowned as Champions and most sides locked into their final ladder positions, it's not the most high-stakes final round we've ever seen but there are still some interesting storylines to follow along.
The biggest of those storylines will come at KGV where the Devonport Strikers will be looking to complete an undefeated season when they take on the Glenorchy Knights. The competition newcomers are now all that stands between the…
Match of the Round: Glenorchy Knights v Devonport Strikers
The biggest game in NPL Tasmania history is set for Saturday at KGV as the 2024 league title comes down to the final game of the season. The title has come down to the final day before in the NPL era, but never with the two sides in contention meeting head to head.
Indeed, these two sides were the central protagonists in the most recent final day title drama back in 2021, when the Strikers entered the final day on top, only to fall to the Kingborough Lions and see the title flip to the Knights. It’s the only time in the past…
McDonald’s NPL Tasmania Round 21Burdon Brilliance Hands Knights TitleThe Glenorchy Knights held the Devonport Strikers to a 0-0 draw to claim the 2024 NPL Tasmania title on a dramatic final day of the season. Needing just a point to claim the league title, it was Angus Burdon who made himself the hero, making a series of big saves to ensure his side held the Strikers at bay despite the Knights spending much of the contest on the back foot. The Strikers pushed hard late and twice drew massive stops from Burdon in a period of stoppage time that lasted 10 minutes but they just couldn't find…
