The Clarence Zebras appeared en route to an upset result against the Kingborough Lions when they led the visitors 2-1 into the second half. But the game swung on a red card to Jack Maundrill in the 54th minute that saw the Zebras reduced to 10 men. The numerical advantage proved overwhelming, as the Lions stormed over the top of them, scoring five times in the final 25 minutes to secure a 6-2 win. Kobe Kemp scored a second hat-trick for the season as he continued his red-hot start to the campaign.
Glenorchy Knights and Riverside Olympic claimed their first-ever points in the WSL, playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw at KGV in a battle of the competition newcomers. Charley Read had the visitors ahead in just the third minute, before the game exploded into life either side of halftime. A stunning Meg Connolly run and goal in between a pair of strikes from the Knights left things delicately poised at 2-2 after 47 minutes and whilst both sides had opportunities to win it throughout the second half,…
Round 4 Match of the Round: Taroona FC v Launceston United
Pirates On Right Track Ahead of Stern Launceston United Test
The Game of the Round for this weekend pits Taroona FC against Launceston United. The match will take place at Lightwood Park, with the currently nomadic Taroona unable to play games at their usual home base of Kelvedon Park due to its present unavailability.
After some heavy defeats across the opening weeks of the season, Taroona put in a much-improved showing against the Kingborough Lions in their last start, which is a performance they can build from according…
Match of the Round: South Hobart v Glenorchy Knights
Top Two To Meet In Early Season Blockbuster
Round 4 in the NPL Tasmania is headlined by a huge top-of-the-table showdown between the Glenorchy Knights and South Hobart. Both the Knights and South have started with a perfect 3 wins from their opening 3 games and are the only sides yet to drop a point so far this year, setting the stage for a massive clash at D'arcy Street on Saturday.
South Hobart assistant coach Josh Dingjan was expecting a good game worthy of such a crunch fixture.
The round got underway on Friday Night with the Devonport Strikers scoring an emphatic 6-0 victory over Riverside Olympic that temporarily moved them to the top of the table. Lucy Foote and Georgia King provided the major highlights, with some stunning long-range bombs. Foote went on to score a hat-trick in what was a comprehensive victory for a Strikers side who maintained their unbeaten record ahead of a huge clash with South Hobart next weekend.
In the biggest game of the season to date, the spoils were shared between the Glenorchy Knights and South Hobart, as they played out a tightly contested 1-1 draw. The Knights squandered some decent scoring chances to take the lead and when Nick Morton converted from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute it appeared like it might cost them. But Riley Dillon came to his side's rescue with his late equaliser in the 88th minute earning a point that keeps the Knights on top of the table.

Contenders To Clash At Valley Road
The big games keep on coming in the NPL Tasmania, and it's currently extremely tight at the top end of the table, with just a single point between the top four sides. The top four will now play amongst themselves this week, creating opportunities for those sides to steal an early march in the title race.
One of those big fixtures will be at Valley Road as the Devonport Strikers play host to South Hobart in battle of last season's top two sides.
Round 5 Match of the Round: Devonport v South Hobart
Title Favourites to Clash at Valley Road
The Game of the Round for this weekend pits the Devonport Strikers up against South Hobart in a battle of the two lead contenders for the 2024 WSL title. The pair were the top two sides last season and have already met in the Summer Cup Final this season, emerging as the two most likely title fancies through the opening exchanges of the 2024 season.
Strikers' Coach Tom Ballantyne was expecting a tough challenge against a side he labelled as the competition's benchmark.
After a slow start, the highly anticipated Lions v Knights clash came to life after the half-hour mark and it ended up being one of the more entertaining games of the season so far. With the Lions firmly on top at halftime and leading 1-0 after a Kemp penalty conversion, the Glenorchy Knights responded with a furious start to the second half. They scored two times and created a host of other scoring chances, but in between those goals Noah Mies headed home against the run of play to leave the game at 2-2,…
The Devonport Strikers underlined their title credentials and perhaps established themselves as the early WSL favourites as they downed South Hobart 2-0 in a crunch game at Valley Road. Goals from Whitney Knight and Abbie White sealed a deserved victory for the Strikers in a game largely controlled by the defensive units. The Strikers now sit 2 points clear on top but crucially with a game in hand and are the only side to remain unbeaten through the opening five rounds.
A big weekend of local football looms as we reach the Quarter Final stage of the Statewide Cup Competitions, with the final four of the Lakoseljac and Women's Statewide Cups set to be determined this weekend.
Lions/City Rematch Headlines Cup Quarters
In the pick of the Lakoseljac Cup Quarter Finals, the Kingborough Lions will play host to Launceston City. It's a rematch of a recent encounter in the league, with the pair facing off at Lightwood Park just a fortnight ago, a game the Lions won in a tightly fought encounter 2-1 after trailing at half time.
The quarter final stage of the Lakoseljac Cup was played out over the weekend, leaving four sides left in the running for the coveted trophy and the accompanying place in the Australia Cup Round of 32.
In the pick of the quarter finals, the Kingborough Lions advanced to the semis with a 2-1 win over Launceston City. The game played out in a nearly identical fashion to their NPL Tasmania clash a fortnight prior at the same venue. Once again, City took the lead into the half-time break, only to find themselves overrun in the second 45 minutes. Lions' star…

Round 6 Match of the Round: Kingborough Lions v Devonport Strikers
The Kingborough Lions will welcome the undefeated Devonport Strikers to Lightwood Park in our Match of the Round for Round 6 of the Women's Super League.
It's a game that will be a tough test for a Lions outfit who have looked an improved outfit in 2024, but a shock 6-2 loss to Knights in their last WSL outing means the ladder-leading Strikers enter this one as the favourites as they prepare to meet on Saturday.
Lions' midfielder Christabelle Moore said the side had moved past the league defeat and were glad to…
The Devonport Strikers have maintained their perfect record, posting a fifth straight win from their opening five games by defeating Kingborough 2-1. After Kannegiesser had cancelled out Lucy Foote's opener, the sides traded scoring chances in an exciting final half hour, with Whitney Knight once again playing the role of match winner.
Launceston City closed the gap to the competition's top four with an emphatic victory over neighbours Launceston United in their Saturday evening derby. Diesel Murfet and Thierry Swaby ran riot in attack, causing the United defence all manner of issues as City stormed to a thumping win. The only sour note for the visitors came 10 minutes from the end when Mac Wilcox was sent off, leaving City to play out the game with 10 men.

It was yet another draw from another top four battle, as Dom Smith helped bundle one home for the Devonport Strikers to salvage a point 10 minutes from full time. Tyler Harrison handed Knights the early lead and they had chances to extend that, before the Strikers made them pay for not putting the game away, seeing the Knights slip from top spot for the first time this year.
Taroona struck twice in the dying moments to deny Riverside Olympic their first-ever WSL win and force a 2-2 draw. Riverside largely dominated the contest but were wasteful in front of goals and didn't extend their one goal lead till the 84th minute, when they finally scored a deserved second. But that sparked the Pirates to life, and against the run of play they struck twice in two minutes via Nickson and Walker to secure themselves a point, and then almost snatched all three with a near miss in stoppage time.…
