The 2024 Statewide Cup finalists are set to be determined this weekend, with some massive semi-final clashes lying in wait.
The Lakoseljac Cup is always a major prize for the clubs, especially with the coveted place in the Australia Cup Round of 32 awaiting the winners. The first of those semi-finals will take place on Saturday at Windsor Park, with Riverside Olympic hosting the Kingborough Lions.
The Roos are the definite surprise packets remaining at this stage of the competition, having struggled in the NPL thus far this year, but they’ve taken advantage of their draw to score two…
Football Tasmania’s school holiday activities were a huge success, with lots of fantastic weather, smiling kids and football fun.
The very popular school holiday clinics were happening almost every day, somewhere in the State - from Devonport to Launceston and all around Hobart in the South.
These were appreciated by both parents and players, providing fun physical activities for participants and the very popular drop and run service for parents.
Hundreds of players attended our clinics and gala days at:

Match of the Round: South Hobart v Kingborough Lions
Round 8 of the NPL Tasmania marks the first fixture repeats for the 2024 season. With every side having now played each other once, it’s time for the rematches and the biggest of those in Round 8 pits the Kingborough Lions up against ladder leaders South Hobart in the Match of the Round.
The Round 1 clash between the pair saw South Hobart kick their season off in style as they downed the Kingborough Lions 2-0 at the Den. This time around it will be at D'arcy Street and South enter the game off the back of some strong form, moving to…
Round 8 Match of the Round: South Hobart v Kingborough Lions
Round 8 brings with it the second full round of fixtures in the Women’s Super League, with every side now having played each other once, taking us back to the match-ups we saw in Round 1. Perhaps most eye-catching of those week 1 scores was the Kingborough Lions holding the defending Champions South Hobart to a 1-1 draw, and they meet again this weekend in the Match of the Round.
The Lions will enter this one riding high, having battled past Launceston United in extra time last weekend. Coach Cam Heazlewood was pleased with…
The trend of draws between the top four sides continued at D'arcy Street on Saturday as the Kingborough Lions and South Hobart played out a 3-3 classic. The ladder leaders South Hobart jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Nick Morton brace, but the Lions rallied to lead 3-2, striking twice in 5 minutes midway through the second half and were just minutes away from victory before Bradley Lakoseljac struck late to secure a point for the hosts in what was probably the game of the season to date.
The Kingborough Lions produced their best performance of the season, as they downed South Hobart 4-1 at D'arcy Street. All five goals came in a highly dramatic first half, with 3 goals arriving in the space of just 7 minutes shortly before the half time break. The Lions then shut out South's attempts to claw back in the second half, defending well to preserve the lead and draw level on points with the defending Champions on the table. It makes it consecutive heavy defeats at home for South Hobart, who have some work…
Round 9 Match of the Round: Launceston United v Devonport Strikers
Round 9 kicks off with a rare Friday night fixture, as Launceston United hosts the Devonport Strikers at Birch Avenue in the Match of the Round.
United are one of 3 sides separated by just a single point on the table and they sit 7 points behind the Strikers heading into what will be their second meeting of the season. They have the chance to really push themselves back into the thrust of the title race if they can topple the ladder leaders here, but a defeat would leave them perhaps too far back to challenge.…
Match of the Round: Launceston City v Glenorchy Knights
Round 9’s Match of the Round takes us to TassieCare Park where fifth-placed Launceston City hosts the competition-leading Glenorchy Knights.
City will enter this one off the back of a victory last Friday night over Riverside, but coach Daniel Syson knows his side will need to be better if they are to repeat that result against the Knights.
“I think internally we knew it was a frustrating game for us, even though we won 1-0, in terms of the standards and expectations, we didn’t really meet them," he said.
Riverside Olympic exacted some revenge for their Lakoseljac Cup semi final defeat at the hands of the Kingborough Lions, winning a highly dramatic game 4-3 at Windsor Park. In a wide-open affair that had no shortage of drama, it was Emmanuel Ponce who provided the highlight of clash, with his goal of the season contender from long range one of 2 goals he would score in the win.
A final minute strike from Danielle Kannegiesser saw the Kingborough Lions sneak past Riverside Olympic 3-2 in a wildly entertaining clash at Windsor Park. The Roos came close to claiming a breakthrough victory, but the Lions dug deep and found the late winner after a Hannah Walsh brace had left the game in the balance, tied at 2-2. It means the Lions winning streak will continue into next week's Statewide Cup Final against the Strikers, whilst the Roos will take heart from an encouraging performance that…

The biggest day on the Tasmanian footballing calendar has rolled around for 2024, with a massive Cup Final Monday in store at Lightwood Park. In the Lakoseljac Cup, it will be the Kingborough Lions taking on the Glenorchy Knights, whilst the Lions have also reached the Women’s Statewide Cup Final where they will meet the Devonport Strikers. It makes for one of the biggest, if not the biggest day, in the Lions' club history and it sets the stage nicely for what should be an intriguing afternoon of football between tightly-matched sides.
Lions and Knights Set To Battle For Lakoseljac Cup…
The Glenorchy Knights claimed the 2024 Lakoseljac Cup with a 3-2 extra-time victory over the Kingborough Lions in a drama-laden game that will go down as one of the greatest finals in the competition's history.
The Knights squandered a number of good scoring chances in the first half, with a combination of wasteful finishing and super goalkeeping from Lions' goalie and Player of the Match Masatoshi Kawano keeping the score locked at 0-0. It looked like that might come back to haunt them when the Lions sprang out of the halftime sheds and took the lead…
A THRILLING weekend of Statewide Cup finals culminated in two nail-biting senior games yesterday at Clennett’s Lightwood Park, Kingston.
In front of a crowd of 1,574 spectators rugged up against the cold, the Glenorchy Knights secured their place in the Round of 32 for the Australia Cup, with a 3-2 win over Kingborough Lions in extra time.
They were presented with the Lakoseljac Cup by Nerradine Lakoseljac, wife of the late Milan Lakoseljac, and son Jonnie. Winners’ medals were presented by the Opposition Leader, Labor member for Franklin Dean Winter.

Match of the Round for Round 10 takes us to KGV in a battle of the competition newcomers, with the Glenorchy Knights taking on Riverside Olympic.
Speaking at Friday's press conference, Glenorchy Knights' coach Ivica Bolonja said his side was settling nicely into life in the top-flight competition.
"I think we’ve grown well," he said
"We are a young group, which presents its challenges, as far as consistency is concerned.

Match of the Round: Kingborough Lions v Clarence Zebras
The Match of the Round for this week features the Battle of Franklin between the Kingborough Lions and Clarence Zebras. The match will see the two sides playing for a special Cup and raising funds and awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Prostate cancer survivor Rick Bennett has been a driver of the event and he spoke to the importance of the occasion at a Friday morning press conference.
"This is a fantastic initiative from both clubs," he said.
The Kingborough Lions claimed the Battle of Franklin, shading a 7-goal contest 4-3 over the Clarence Zebras. The goals flowed in the opening half hour, with the Lions twice scoring equalisers within 2 minutes of conceding, before taking a 3-2 lead into the half time break. Alfred Hess extended the Lions' advantage midway through the second half, which would prove enough to secure the three points, despite a late Jayden Hey goal offering the Zebras a lifeline. The match was used to help raise funds and…
Jemima Brown scored four times as the Glenorchy Knight stormed to a thumping 5-0 win over Riverside Oympic at KGV. In a battle of the two newcomers to the Super League for 2024, the Roos' defence had no answer for Brown, who produced a clinical poaching performance up front, chiming in with 4 goals to help propel her side to their heaviest win of the season.
