Match of the Round for Round 11 is headlined by a top of the table showdown that will see South Hobart FC hosting the Glenorchy Knights at D'arcy Street. The sides are separated by just a single point as they prepare to meet for the second time this season, having played out one of the games of the year in a 2-2 draw at D'arcy Street previously.
South Hobart boss Ken Morton was pleased to be sitting on top after 10 rounds, feeling his side had handled plenty of adversity with injuries.
“We are quite happy with where we are," he said
"It’s been a struggle, having been in a difficult…
Match of the Round for Round 11 sees South Hobart taking on the Glenorchy Knights at D'arcy Street. With South currently sitting a game behind Devonport, who have a game in hand, the Champions can ill afford a slip up, but the Knights have been the surprise packets of the season and are eager to spring another one on Saturday, despite a heavy defeat the last time the sides met.
South Hobart Striker Josi Mamic said the side was relishing the upcoming contest.
“We’re excited as a team, Knights are always a great team to play against, they are always tough on the ball and put up a good…
South Hobart left it late, but eventually overcame the Glenorchy Knights thanks to a last-gasp goal from Graciella Baez. With time running out, it appeared Millie Baric had snared a point for the Knights when her back-post tap-in cancelled out Pishon Choi's headed opener. But a late set piece was bundled home in the 93rd minute by Baez saw the Knights denied a point right at the death. Given South won the first fixture between the pair 10-0 it shows the Strides Knights are making, but they will feel…
South Hobart survived a furious late rally from the Glenorchy Knights to claim a 3-2 victory in their top-of-the-table clash at D'arcy Street. South were cruising when Austin Yost extended their lead to 3-0 in the opening moments of the second half, but a pair of Tyler Harrison penalty conversions ensured a grandstand finish to the contest. The Knights came within a whisker of making it yet another top four side v top four side match ending in a draw, but Nicholas O'Connell produced a pair of spectacular saves in…

The Match of the Round for Round 12 in the Women’s Super League will see a potentially decisive battle in the title race between the current ladder leaders Devonport and the defending champions South Hobart. With the Strikers currently sitting a game clear on top of the table, and also boasting a game in hand, they could put themselves almost out of reach if they take the three points on Saturday.
Speaking at a Friday press conference on behalf of the club, Ken Morton admitted it was vital South ensured they didn’t fall any further behind in the title race.
The Match of the Round for Round 12 will see another Sunday top-of-the-table showdown at D'arcy Street, with South Hobart - having vanquished the Glenorchy Knights a week prior - now facing a Devonport Strikers side looking to bump them from the summit.
South Hobart boss Ken Morton admitted it would be a challenging game, but one he was looking forward to.
“We always look forward to the big games and there is no bigger game than playing Devonport," he said.
"They are a fantastic club, a very good team who are well organized and it will be a tough game.”
South Hobart and the Devonport Strikers played out a 2-2 draw in a fiery encounter between the competition's top two at D'arcy Street. It was an action-packed contest that saw yellow cards aplenty, penalty drama, a coach send-off and ultimately the two sides unable to be separated. In slippery conditions, Charles Bidwell handed the Strikers the lead against the run of play before an Austin Yost cross trickled home and squared things up by half time. Sam Berezansky had South ahead early in the second half…
The Devonport Strikers took an enormous stride towards securing a WSL/Statewide Cup double, as they downed the defending champions South Hobart 2-0 at D'arcy Street. In a game that was largely devoid of scoring opportunities, the Strikers took the lead via Whitney Knight picking out the top corner from outside the box in the 29th minute. Lucy Foote then doubled the advantage shortly before half time, sweeping home a rebound from outside the box after a desperately unlucky Kacee Ponting had denied Grace Sims, only…
Match of the Round: Devonport Strikers v Kingborough Lions
Match of the Round for Round 13 takes us to Valley Road where the Devonport Strikers play host to the Kingborough Lions. It will be another top-four battle with a major impact on the fascinating title race that continues to develop at the top of the table.
Strikers coach Tom Ballantyne said he was expecting a response from the Lions following their heavy loss to the Knights last weekend and forecast a tough game.
“They are always a dangerous side, continually improving as the season wears on under Alfred," he said.
The Kingborough Lions brought the Devonport Strikers' undefeated run to an end as they claimed a 2-1 road win at Valley Road to keep their title hopes firmly alive, and dealt a blow to the Strikers' aspirations in the process. A week after being thumped by the Glenorchy Knights, the Lions bounced back with second-half goals from Luttmer and Wright, which was enough to see them home after Toby Barton had nodded Devonport into a first-half lead. The Strikers dominated possession and had plenty of play around the Lions…
Our beloved KGV ground at Grove Road continues to undergo a major facelift.
Glenorchy City Council commenced a significant building works project in late 2023, which are planned for completion in early 2025.
The works are being conducted in two stages. The first stage - which has just been completed - is the building of new change rooms, which provides two players’ change rooms, referee change room and public toilets, where the old public toilets were previously located.
Stage two has commenced on the grandstand refurbishment this week. When finished, this will provide two new…
The Women’s Super League returns after a week off, with Launceston United taking on the Kingborough Lions in focus as the Match of the Round.
With the competition having a bye last weekend for the National Youth Championships and United’s game against Riverside postponed due to weather the week prior, it means United haven’t played since June 22, presenting a challenge for the playing group.
“We’ve just had to do what we can to maintain fitness and focus through training," captain Katie Hill said at Friday morning's press conference.
Match of the Round: Launceston City v South Hobart
This week’s Match of the Round features Launceston City and South Hobart, with Launceston City set to wear special kits to highlight the work of their major sponsor TassieCare, which offers tailored care for people living with a disability.
City launched the initiative via their Facebook page, stating: “This special TassieCare round recognises the positive impact of sport and inclusion in football and our wider community, and the connection it brings.
"It highlights the importance of football being open and accessible to everyone,…
On a night where they celebrated their major sponsor TassieCare, Launceston City produced a scintillating performance to bump South Hobart from the top of the NPL Tasmania table. City were on fire in the second half as they fought back to score a 4-2 victory, having trailed 2-1 at the half-time break. Coach Daniel Syson spoke pre-game about his side's beefed-up attacking threat and that was on full display in the second half, with Thierry Swaby and Joel Stone tearing the South Hobart defence apart to…
The Kingborough Lions and Launceston United continued their trend of playing out closely-fought thrillers, this time drawing 2-2 at Birch Avenue. The hosts got the dream start when they led 2-0 thanks to goals from young stars Chelsea Wing and Hollie Jones inside the opening 12 minutes. A profligate Lions side should've closed that gap by half-time, but squandered some gilt-edged chances as it somehow remained 2-0 at the break. Tilly Wills cut the lead to 2-1 immediately after the restart before Cara…
Football Tasmania has today released its Strategic Plan 2024-2028, to guide the future of the game in Tasmania.
Following a consultation process in March, which included stakeholder sessions and a State-wide survey, the new plan has now been endorsed by the Football Tasmania Board.
The resulting plan centres around four key strategic pillars:
Unifying football: Unify the Tasmanian football community to work collaboratively for the collective good of the game
Competitions and pathways: Enhance our local competition and pathway opportunities
The match of the Round in the Super League this week could prove to be a pivotal game in determining the 2024 league title, with the ladder-leading Devonport Strikers hosting the second-placed Kingborough Lions in a top-of-the-table showdown at Valley Road. The Strikers currently enjoy an eight-point buffer atop the league, and a win could make it an almost unassailable gap with just six rounds left to play.
Strikers Coach Tom Ballantyne agreed it was a massive clash for the side.
“This weekend is huge in the context of the league. A win will put us a lot closer to where we want to be…
Strikers Place One Hand On League Title With Dominant Win
The Devonport Strikers have placed one hand on the league title, scoring a thumping 4-0 victory over second-placed Kingborough Lions at Valley Road. The Strikers bossed the contest, dominating the first half but finding themselves unable to break through until Lucy Foote scored a stunner from outside the box just before the half-time break. Foote then scored an even better goal from further out to double the lead in the 62nd minute, which seemed to open the floodgates - having worn down…
Our Under 15 and Under 16 boys' teams completed a successful National Youth Championships campaign last week in Wollongong, NSW.
They may not have reached the finals, but their performances were nothing short of impressive. The Under 15s were an equal match for larger Member Federation outfits NSW Metro Sky and Queensland Silver, recording draws in both encounters, and beat the Northern Territory 4-0 and NSW Country 2-0.
Head Coach Franco Previdi told FA he was full of pride to see the determination and grit his side has shown during the tournament.
