Some of the details inside the state budget documents aren’t always widely communicated, so I wanted to take this opportunity to update the football family regarding football funding in this year’s budget.
As noted in the budget papers; “Funding of $1.2 million over four years has been allocated to Football Federation Tasmania to support grassroots and elite football development in Tasmania for both men and women. Funding of $300,000 has been in allocated in 17-18.”

Well look no further! FFT in conjunction with the Northern Football Club's are looking to establish social competitions for men and women of all ages and potentially an over 35’s league.
These matches are planned to feature 7-a-side teams and will be played on a Wednesday nights in Launceston, with the four participating clubs, Launceston City, Launceston United, Riverside and Northern Rangers all rotating through hosting the evenings.

When Glenorchy Knights and Olympia FC Warriors take the field to contest the Lakoseljac Cup final on Monday it will be for some new looking silverware, with a new trophy having been commissioned to reflect the growing prestige of the competition. The new trophy was unveiled at KGV Football House on Tuesday morning, with members of the Lakoseljac family who helped to pick out the new trophy, present to help reveal it, along with the Presidents of the competing clubs.

At the beginning of June, Ulverstone Soccer Club held a girls-only club session for their 11 to 14 year old female players. The session was run by FFT Women's Development Officer Holly-Lace Ayton and included a workshop where the female footballers were involved with discussions around inclusion, opportunities and player pathways.

Congratuatlions to the Olympia FC Warriors and Hobart Zebras who won their respective Statewide Cup Finals on Monday.

After Football Federation Australia officially announced its intention to bid for the Women's World Cup on Tuesday, FFT CEO Mike Palmer has confirmed that FFT will seek to have Tasmania involved in the bid.
"We certainly won't be backwards in talking to FFA about it. We would love to be part of the Women's World Cup and it would be fantastic for Football in Tasmania if we were."

A quick update from the Board. Focus has been maintained on sporting infrastructure. A big thank you to those 12 or so clubs that have already participated in meetings regarding current and future facilities. We are in the process of arranging meetings with all clubs and these will happen throughout July. Once the club meetings have been completed, we will engage with key local councils as well as the State Government.

The next generation of Tasmania's female footballers are set to shine as they compete at the 2017 National Youth Championships in Coffs Harbor this week. The Tasmanian State Under 14 and 15 sides have flown out and will undertake a heavy schedule as they play 8 games in the space of 5 days, playing against teams from each of the State Federations.

The Tasmanian Under 17 Girl's State team have flown out and are set to kick off their 2017 NTC challenge campaign. The tournament will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra with FFA's scouting and development staff in attendance to try and identify future National Team and W-League players.

Following the NTC Challenge, two players will be attending the first Westfield Junior Matildas camp in Sydney, Tuesday to Friday. Football Federation Tasmania will be releasing all details on Monday.
From the camp a team will be selected for the Junior Matildas, who will travel to Chonburi, Thailand from September 10 to 23 this year for the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship.
The competition also serves as qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Uruguay in 2018.
Following on from the 2017 Under 17 NTC Challenge for Girls, Madi Chambers from Olympia Warriors, and Emily Heazlewood from Launceston United, will be flying to Valentines Sports Park, Sydney on Tuesday the 1st of August 2017, to attend the first Westfield Junior Matildas camp.
